Ty Nielson is the lead course instructor.
Ty began his career as a Nuclear Propulsion Engineer and Electrician's Mate in the US Navy. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with minors in Mathematics and Physics from Eastern Washington University. With a passion for engineering and flying, Ty went on to work with Garmin Aviation Technologies as a Aircraft System Engineer and in the FAA ODA working in environmental avionics testing for High Intensity Radiated Field (HIRF) and Lightning Testing. Later, he worked for US Army Corps of Engineers as an electrical engineer and program manager for hydropower test and evaluation of major electrical power train equipment. Ty served at more than 16 hydropower facilities in the northwest providing expert guidance on high voltage testing and evaluation as well as specialized maintenance and repair of electrical equipment. Ty also served as the regional program manager for hazardous energy control program and arc flash safety program. Ty has more than 15 years of experience of industrial engineering and safety experience and has provided numerous training seminars on industrial safety.
